New
Members
Brothers,
Congratulations
on your membership in our great order!
During this upcoming year you will be introduced
to the many opportunities that are before you as
member of Onondaga Lodge 36. The Order of
the Arrow is built on three pillars: Brotherhood,
Cheerfulness, and Service. As you go forward
you should try to envelop these pillars in your
life as a scout and in your life as a citizen.
At the beginning of my letter, I addressed you as
Brothers. Each of you has earned the right
to be called this as you have gone through the
same trials that all who have come before have.
I encourage you to attend our fellowships,
ordeals, and banquet to build up a bond of
brotherhood within our lodge. In addition,
that brotherhood continues nationally by attending
Section Conclaves, Area Leadership Training
Conferences, National Order of the Arrow
Conferences, National Leadership Seminars, and the
plethora of other national programs of emphasis.
As a member of
our Order, you should strive to cheerfully spread
Scouting. Ways you can do this are through
joining the Cub Scout ceremony team, Unit
Elections team, or dance and drum team.
These opportunities to impact those outside of our
Order provide us with the ability to make sure
Scouting remains a driving force in the future!
Finally, as brothers, we are called to do service.
Service can be performed in a multitude of ways.
Traditionally, the order performs work at the
council’s camps. The work that is
completed in a short amount of time helps to
create a better program for future generations.
In addition, service can come in other forms.
Some example include, serving as your troop’s
SPL, marketing a lodge or chapter fundraising
event, or helping to communicate the lodge’s
message.
In
a mere 10 months after your induction into our
Order, you will have the opportunity to seal your
membership. If you feel that you want to
intensify your understanding of our Order’s
purpose and are ready to take that next step,
please participate in a Brotherhood ceremony.
More information on obtaining the Brotherhood
Honor and about our Order can be found on the
Jumpstart website at http://jumpstart.oa-bsa.org.
Above all, have
fun while participating in our Order! Unlike
your Ordeal, the order is filled with tremendous
opportunities for leadership and just plain fun.
If I can be of any assistance during this
important time in your life as an Arrowman, please
let me know.
Yours in
Brotherhood,
Zach Thuring
